Ultimate Fun Run Comes to Orange Beach

58558-thewharfcolorrun-h The Color Run 5K is coming to The Wharf in Orange Beach on Saturday, May 25. A unique new sporting event, The Color Run has no winners, no official finishing times, and almost no rules. Participants of all speeds (walkers as well as runners) and all ages are invited to race. Since its debut in January 2012, The Color Run has grown from 50 races and 600,000 participants to more than 100 races and more than one million participants. “We   call The Color Run the ‘Happiest 5K on the Planet’ because our events bring together friends and family in a unique, healthy, and fun environment,” said founder Travis Snyder. Participants, who can opt to race solo or form a “color team” of four or more members, follow only two rules: wear white at the starting line and finish the race plastered in colors. The colors, bright-hued powders (actually dyed cornstarch) that volunteers pour over the participants to mark each kilometer of the race, give the event its name and add to the fun. The Wharf is the first Gulf Coast venue to host The Color Run. “We are thrilled beyond words to welcome this colorful and charitable event to our family beach destination,” said Beth Gendler, vice president of sales for the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Sports Commission. “Memorial Day weekend is a great time to visit our area, and this highly anticipated event adds one more reason why families should kick off their summer vacations on our sugar-white shores.” For more information and to sign up, visit thecolorrun.com/gulf-shores.
