Mardi Gras on the Harbor
The good times just keep rolling at Destin’s HarborWalk Village with the fifth annual Mardi Gras Parade and Celebration. Parade time is 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, and guests should prepare to be dazzled by the spectacle — floats with costumed riders, street performers, live music, and plenty of beads and other souvenirs. All of this — more than 100 parade entries - plus the panoramic view of Destin Harbor in the background, make for a very memorable Mardi Gras event. It’s also an opportunity to help the thousands of Floridians who go hungry daily. Parade participants and viewers are all asked to bring boxes of food or cash donations to benefit Destin’s Harvest House, a non-profit organization that distributes food to those who need it. “We have the opportunity to impact the lives of others by partnering with our local food banks through Destin Harvest,” said HarborWalk Village marketing director Jamie Hall. “Our hope is to raise much-needed funds, collect non-perishable food items, and bring awareness to our local families who struggle daily to feed their families. We all want to help, and participating in this event gives back to our community.” After the parade, there’s a free live concert at the HarborWalk Village main stage. Winding up the festivities on Sunday, February 10, is the Mardi Gras Concert Series Finale, a live show by the DizzyJukes Band on the HarborWalk Village main stage at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
