Last Boating Safety Class for 2012
Every year, the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary in Destin holds regular boating safety classes that meet Florida’s requirements for operating a vessel in state waters. The last of these for 2012 is scheduled for Saturday, October 20, at the Coast Guard Station Destin. Topics to be covered in the daylong class include an introduction to boating, boating law, boat safety equipment, safe boating practices, navigation, boating problems (accidents and other emergencies), and trailering, storing, and protecting your boat. Cost of the class is $35 per person and includes the course, textbook, exam, Florida Wildlife Commission safe boating identification card, lunch, line handling and knots demonstration, a tour of the station, and a safety whistle. Registration for the class begins at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday; it runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required by October 17. The Coast Guard Station Destin is at 2000 Miracle Strip Parkway. For more information, contact John Ryan at 623-980-8782 or [email protected].
